Freeman’s January 28 European Art & Old Masters auction has a number of excellent consignments from around the country. A fine group of paintings by 19th century Polish artists is headlined by a large Josef Von Brandt oil on canvas and complemented with paintings by Julian Falat and Romain Kramstyk. A nice group of 19th century British marine paintings is led by a handsome Montague Dawson oil on canvas.

The Old Masters section of the auction includes a work attributed to Gaspar Van Wittel, also known as Vanvittelli, Gaspar van Wittel was the preeminent painter of 18th century Italian Veduta scenes. Rounding out the section is a large Italian tempera on panel painting. Painted in the lunette in the second half of the 16th century, the painting features three large form figures in a manner that suggests it previously hung in a church spandrel.
