New Britain Museum of American Art receives donation from Charles and Irene Hamm

The New Britain Museum of American Art announced that they have received the gift from Art collectors Charles and Irene Hamm, which consists of $1 million donation and 165 paintings by the leading American artists of 19th and 20th centuries.

The donation will support the museum’s capital campaign to build a new 18,000-sq. ft. wing in 2014. The Collection includes works by outstanding American artists such as Thomas Birch, Fitz Henry Lane, and William Bradford. It will be presented in the Charles and Irene Hamm Gallery in the new wing.

“ With the donation of Charles and Irene Hamm, the New Britain Museum will have one of the outstanding collection of coastal art in the country,” Board of Trustees, John R Rathgeber said, “Their love for this genre will inspire our visitors for generations to come.”
